Frequently Asked Questions

How do I become a client?

The first step is for us to have a chat. This enables me to get clarity on whether I can help you, and you can get clarity on whether I’m the right person for you to work with. It should take us about 15 minutes.

I have a few slots set aside each week for this, and if you’d like to book a time to speak with me, simply click on this link and I will call you at the appointed time.

How do you work and what can I expect?

I use a Functional Medicine approach in my work, which means that I look to identify and address any biochemical imbalances in your body that may be contributing to your symptoms, with the goal of promoting optimal health. Please know that nutritional therapy is not a replacement for medical advice, and where relevant, I work alongside your medical doctor.

It is important to know that regular contact with you is needed over a period of time to get results, and clients get better results when they are regularly supported throughout this period. That is why I usually work with clients on a package basis. This includes both nutritional therapy consultations and regular short coaching contact in between sessions. In this way, you can keep your momentum going and get answers to any questions you have, as well as receiving ongoing support.

Initial programmes are typically 3 months long. Progress is reviewed on an ongoing basis and at the end of the 3 months, this may then be extended or clients may go onto a maintenance programme.

How many consultations will I need and how often will I see you?

You’ll get better and more sustainable results when you commit to your programme and are supported throughout this period.

That’s why most clients choose to work on a package basis. This helps you get the support and accountability you need to keep your momentum going and get quick answers to any short questions you have.

We review progress on an ongoing basis and at the end of your package, depending on where you’re at, this may then be extended or clients may go onto a maintenance programme.

The number of consultations we have depends on which package we are working with together.

What are your packages and what does it include?

The time I spend on your case includes not just our consultation time, but also time before and after, in preparation, such as reviewing your case history and test results (where relevant), and going through research literature that relates to your health concerns. This ensures that you are supported with the most up to date information and a diet, lifestyle and supplement programme that are safe and specific to you.

Please note that the cost of any laboratory tests or supplements, are paid for separately. The tests and supplements recommended are optional and will be discussed during our consultation.

For specific package details, please refer to Private Consultations.

Is there a cancellation fee if I can’t make it?

There is no charge if you cancel or move your appointment at least 48 hours ahead of time. Failure to cancel an appointment you cannot make with less than 48 hours’ notice incurs a 50% charge. All appointment bookings are final and non-transferable.

If you don’t turn up for your consultation or cancel on the day itself, your session will be deemed as taken and there will be no refund, other than in extenuating circumstances.

Can I get in touch with you between appointments?

Yes, of course.

All clients have access to my private client portal, which is both private and secure. This is where you’ll find your Action Plan or Supplement Programme, and any other information relevant to your consultations.

You’ll also have access to a private chat function (just like texting), which enables you to get in touch with me to ask any quick questions or to share a win.

If your question requires more than a quick response, we may need to book a special short consultation. If this is the case, I will let you know.

This confidential chat function can be accessed either through the computer or mobile phone app.

How do I pay?

All payments are made at the time of booking. You will receive an invoice, with a link through which to make payment. All major credit cards are accepted and an invoice receipt will be sent to you after payment has been made.

Where are your consultations held?

All consultations are held online via Zoom. You’ll be sent a link when you book your session, and at the time of our appointment, simply click on the link and voila. 🙂

How do I book a consultation with you?

If we haven’t worked together before, the first step is to book an initial discovery call with me. You can book a time for this by clicking this link.

Once we’ve agreed to work together, you’ll be sent an invoice for payment. As soon as your payment has been received, you’ll receive an email inviting you to join my private client portal, and another email with some forms for you to complete, including your Health Programme Intake Questionnaire (HPIQ) and 5-day Food Diary.

Filling out your HPIQ generally takes anywhere between 15 and 30 minutes, depending on how much detail you have to share with me.

It is absolutely indispensable that you complete your HPIQ and Food Diary ahead of your appointment. They give me a comprehensive review of your health concerns and help me build up a picture of your health history in advance of your consultation. They also enable me to prepare for your consultation and ask appropriate questions that lead to suitable recommendations. Please note that if I have not received your forms, I will not be able to see you.

Please note that all information you share with me is sent via a secure server that meets all the requirements for security and data handling as set out in the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) for the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) in the UK. In short, this means that no one else other than you and me (or my staff) can see any of your information.

What about lab tests?

Lab tests are recommended on a case by case basis. They are recommended if they will give us further insight into what is going on inside your body, and allow a more accurately targeted and individualised programme for you. Tests also help us to monitor progress.

In the long run, this can work out more economically than a “trial and error” approach which may be needed if testing is not done. Please rest assured that I only recommend tests that are necessary to help you achieve your goals. There is no “one size fits all” test protocol that I follow.

If a test is recommended, you will be informed of any additional costs before ordering. And wherever possible, I will ask you to request any applicable tests through your GP, to save you the expense.

What about my privacy and security of my information?

All your information is held in accordance with the Data Protection Act 2018 and complies with General Data Protection Regulation 2016 (GDPR). To read my Privacy Notice, click here.

I have another question. Where can I ask this?

Simply send an email to support[at]behindthefoodnutrition.com and I’ll get back to you just as soon as I can.
